A Scone to Die For

Oxford Tearoom Mysteries #1

by H.Y. Hanna

This is a cute little murder mystery that just about fills the checklist of things you'd want from a cozy, from a quaint tea room in Oxford to a mischievous cat, a brooding, steely-eyed small town detective to nosy old ladies and lots and lots of descriptions of pastries (there's even a recipe for a sconce at the end of the appendix).

The mystery in question is a bit easy to solve and I caught on pretty early in the book, which made the middle a bit slow for me. There's also the main character, who is supposed to be a former high-powered executive but doesn't really SEEM like a former high-powered executive.

Still, the writing is easy to read and the pacing is great. It's got all the quirky characters you'd expect from a book like this and I had a good time reading it. If you like stories in the vein of Columbo or Murder She Wrote, this is the series for you.
