The Cat Who Lived High

The Cat Who... #11

by Lilian Jackson Braun

A real estate venture coerces Qwill & Co. to move into the penthouse suite of The Casablanca, a decrepit beautiful old ruin in urgent need of restoration. Koko uncovers a mystery and Yum Yum discovers a fondness for waterbeds. The elevators are VERY slow. So is the pacing.

I thought this was an alright installment, maybe not the best in the series but also not the worst. I did appreciate that it was a little different than some of the others, which overall prevented it from feeling stale.

The cats, Koko and Yum Yum, are the obvious stars, alongside Qwill's mustache. The mystery is straight-forward and if you're paying attention you're likely to solve it before Qwill, but everything still unfolds well. After all the build-up, a longer climax or else a bit more in the falling action might have been nice, but I think everything was resolved by the end, and I didn't mind the quick wrap-up too much.

Would recommend for people who like other books in The Cat Who series, or just general fans of cat cozies and/or latenight reruns of Murder She Wrote.
